March 9th marks the anniversary of the death of Notorious B.I.G., arguably the greatest rapper of all time. Biggie, had as much influence on Hip Hop fashion as he had on the music. Not since Heavy D, had an over-sized rapper dared to be dapper. Although, people respected fun loving Heavy, they didn’t want to be him. Biggie’s street cred (not to mention hardcore lyrics and a ridiculous flow) had men in Hip Hop culture wearing suits, Versace sunglasses, Coogi sweaters, and designer dress shoes. Long before Jay-Z had the notion, Biggie influenced the men of urban America to “change clothes”. Rest in peace, notorious one.
